Injured at work

Ask a Lawyer

Question

Country: Canada
State: OntarioI recently injured myself at the grocery store where I work. I was trying to move a powered lift jack out of the way so I could accomplish my assigned duties for the night. The lift jack was in the improper spot and the key was still in, there was also no one on duty who could move the lift jack for me, therefore, to finish my duties, I had to move the lift jack myself; which I am not properly trained on so that I may finish my tasks. I had accidentally backed the lift jack up and had caught my foot in between the lift jack and a skid in the back hallway causing my foot to fold in half. I was wondering if I had a case against the company. If you require anymore information please let me know.

Answer

It is certainly possible you have a case based on what you say here; you should take a brief description of these events as well as your medical records to an injury attorney and see if the attorney thinks you have a claim; often you need to contact several attorneys to find one to take the case; the review of your case and records is often free and then they will normally take the case on a contingency fee basis if they think you can win; you would pay only if they collect for you.
