[¦in·frə¦red ′map·iŋ] (mapping) Mapping in which a sensitive infrared detector is mounted on an infrared scanner, and the resulting thermal image is translated into varying shades of gray on photographic film, to give a line-pattern image much like that seen on a television screen.
