International Council of Trade and Industrial Unions

International Council of Trade and Industrial Unions

(Russian abbreviation, Mezhsovprof), an international association of left-wing unions that existed in 1920-21. It was founded in Moscow on July 15, 1920, on the initiative of the Executive Committee of the Comintern and by the All-Russia Central Council of Trade Unions. It united the revolutionary trade unions in Europe that had been prevented from joining the International Federation of Trade Unions by reformist leaders of that group. The council carried out the preparatory work for the International Congress of Revolutionary Trade Unions of July 1921, at which the Red International of Trade Unions was founded.
