[in′ten·chən ‚trem·ər] (medicine) A clinical manifestation of certain diseases of the nervous system characterized by involuntary trembling of the limbs brought on by voluntary movements, and ceasing on rest.

Violent, uncontrollable trembling is often seen in certain phases of severe mental disorders.
