Johnson, John J.

(1912– ) political scientist, historian; born in White Swan, Wash. He taught at Stanford University (1946–77) and the University of New Mexico (1980–85). He wrote such influential works as Political Change in Latin America (1958), The Military and Society in Latin America (1964), and A Hemisphere Apart (1990), a study of the Latin American policy of the United States government.
