Juichin

Juichin

a city in central China, in Shansi Province. Juichin arose in the seventh century, becoming a district center in the tenth century. It was the capital of the Central Revolutionary Base, established under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, and the site of the Central Workers’ and Peasants’ Democratic Government from 1931 to 1934. The First All-Chinese Congress of Soviets was held in Juichin in 1931 and the Second Congress in 1934. Since it proved impossible to hold the Central Revolutionary Base, the main forces of the Chinese Red Army left Juichin in November 1934 for northwestern China.
