Iraj Iskandari

Iskandari, Iraj

 

Born Feb. 1, 1907, in Tehran. Prominent figure in the Iranian working-class and democratic movement.

Iskandari graduated in 1931 from the law faculty of the Sorbonne and practiced law. In 1941 he joined the Tudeh Party of Iran and from 1943 to 1946 was a deputy to the Majlis. From August to October 1946 he served as minister of trade and industry. From 1950 to 1952, Iskandari was a member of the World Peace Council; between 1946 and 1955 he represented the Iranian trade unions in the World Federation of Trade Unions. In 1944 he became a member of the Central Committee of the Tudeh and in January 1971 its first secretary. He has translated Marx’ Das Kapital into Persian.
