Jozef Wysocki
Wysocki, Jozef
Born 1809 near Tul’chin, Podolia; died Dec. 31, 1873, in Paris. Polish politician and general.
Wysocki participated in the Polish Uprising of 1830-31, and after fts failure he lived abroad as an emigre. He was a member of the Polish Democratic Society. He fought in the ranks of the Hungarian revolutionary army against the Hapsburg forces in 1848-49 and commanded a legion of Polish volunteers. During the Polish Uprising of 1863-64, Wysocki was for some time director of the Military Commission in Krakow. He emigrated to France after the defeat of the revolt.
