Jensen, Fritz

Born Dec. 26, 1903, in Prague; died Apr. 11, 1955, in Sawarak, northeastern Singapore. Austrian writer and journalist. Member of the Communist Party of Austria from 1929. A doctor by education.

Jensen was a doctor in the People’s Liberation Army of China from 1939 to 1947. He was the founder, director, and an actor of the agitation troupe in Vienna. Jensen began publishing revolutionary poems in the early 1930’s. In February 1934 he participated in the armed struggle of the Viennese workers against government troops and was thrown into a concentration camp. In 1936 he became chief doctor of the International Brigades, which fought in republican Spain. From 1950 to 1953, Jensen was editor of Volksstimme, the central organ of the Communist Party of Austria. His book Reminiscences About Vietnam, which was published in 1955, described the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
