Location:In western Washington and Oregon.

Special Features:By the turn of the twentieth century, the Columbian white-tailed deer had disappeared from nearly all of its range, and in the 1930s it was thought to be extinct. Remnant populations were subsequently discovered, and the refuge was established with 230 of the remaining deer. The current population along the lower Columbia River is thought to be fewer than 800 animals, of which about half live on the refuge.
Habitats: 6,000 acres of pastures, forested tidal swamps, brushy woodlots, marshes, and sloughs.
Access: Open daily from dawn to dusk.
Wild life: White-tailed deer, elk, swans, Canada geese, painted turtle, red-legged frogs, bald eagles and ospreys.
