释义 | kawakawa(ˈkɑːwə)KawaKawa(ancient name, Gem-aten), a city located between the third and fourth cataracts of the Nile, on its right bank (in the province of Dongola, Sudan). Probably founded during the Middle Kingdom (20th century B.C.), it was rebuilt by the pharaoh Amenhotep III and his successor Amenhotep IV (Ikhnaton) in the 15th century B.C. In 1930–31 and 1935–36 an expedition from Oxford University (Great Britain) discovered temples built by Ikhnaton and the kings of Kush (the “Great” Temple of Taharqa) in Kawa. Inscriptions were found containing information about the politics and events of the reigns of some kings of Napata (Taharqa, Amanketeierike). REFERENCELaming Macadam, M. F.
