Karryev, Baimukhamed Atalievich

 

Born Dec. 22, 1914, in the village of Geokcha, in present-day Ashkhabad Oblast, Turkmen SSR. Soviet literary scholar. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Turkmen SSR (1965). Member of the CPSU since 1949.

Karryev has been a professor in the subdepartment of Turkmen literature at the M. Gorky Turkmen University since 1969. His doctoral dissertation was entitled Makhtumkuli and His Patriotism (1943). Karryev is the author of the book Zelili and His Times (1943), and has also written pamphlets, articles devoted to Turkmen literature, and textbooks for Turkmen schools. He takes part in the publication of texts of Turkmen classical literature and folklore. Karryev has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor as well as medals.
