Kartaly

a city (until 1944, a settlement) in Cheliabinsk Oblast, RSFSR, located on the Kartaly-Aiat River (in the Tobol basin), 150 km east of Magnitogorsk. Population, 43, 000 (1970).

Kartaly is a railway junction of lines to Magnitogorsk, Cheliabinsk, Orsk, and Tselinograd. There are railway transport enter-prises and factories producing construction materials, spareparts for agricultural machines, and carpets.
