Karabakh

 

a mountain range in the Lesser Caucasus, in Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast, Azerbaijan SSR. The Karabakh Range extends from the Terter River to the valley of the Araks, rising to an altitude of 2,725 m at Mount Beiuk-Kirs. It is made up primarily of sedimentary and volcanic rock. Oak forests cover its slopes. It is separated from the Karabakh Upland by the Akera River, which flows along the range’s southwestern slope.
