Karabi-Iaila

Karabi-Iaila

the most extensive limestone massif in the main range of the Crimean Mountains (situated in its central part).

The Karabi-Iaila reaches an altitude of 1, 254 m. The northern slope is gentle, but the southern slope is precipitous. Its plateaulike top is bare of forests; at lower altitudes the vegetation is of a steppe-meadow variety. Cirques, cones, and other formations typical of karst are abundant, as are caverns and natural mines.
