Izhora Hills

Izhora Hills

 

in the western Leningrad Oblast. Maximum elevation, 168 m. The Izhora Hills are composed of Ordovician limestones. The relief is morainic and monticulate; there are many karsts. The northern and western slopes are steep (elevation, 50–80 m) and are part of the Baltic-Ladozhskii Ledge (a clint). Pine and mixed broad-leaved and coniferous forests (typical of the southern taiga) predominate. There are lakes and swamps in the hills.
