Joos Van Wassenhove

(also called Justus of Ghent). Born circa 1435 in Antwerp or Ghent; died after 1475 in Italy. Flemish painter.

Joos van Wassenhove worked in Ghent and in Urbino, Italy, during the 1470’s. He made use of the generalized imagery, monumental quality, and harmony of composition of Italian painting but retained the sharp articulation of detail typical of Flemish art (Communion of the Apostles, 1473–74, the National Gallery of the Marches, Urbino).
