the name used in the 18th century for the Itel’mensy, the native population of Kamchatka. The name Kamchadaly later came to be used for the descendants of the Itel’my, Koriaks, and Chuvantsy on the Okhotsk coast, Kamchatka, and the Chukchi Peninsula who had merged with the Russians and also the descendants of 18th- and 19th-century Russian settlers. The Kamchadaly speak Russian, characterized by Siberian and local features. The chief occupations are fishing, fur trapping, vegetable gardening, and dairy livestock raising.
