Jaracz, Stefan

Born Dec. 24, 1883, in Z̄ukowicy Stare, near Tarnów; died Aug. 11, 1945, in Otwock, near Warsaw. Polish actor, stage director, and theatrical figure.

Jaracz began acting in 1904 in Kraków. From 1911 to 1913 he appeared at the Teatr Maly, and from 1913 to 1915 at the Teatr Polski. In 1915 he was sentenced to internal exile as an Austrian subject. He visited Moscow in 1916 and Kiev in 1917–18. While in Russia, Jaracz met K. S. Stanislavsky, a meeting that had a considerable influence on his subsequent work. After returning to Warsaw in 1918 he performed at the Teatr Reduta and Teatr Narodowy.

Jaracz’s repertoire.included the title role in Tetmajer’s Judas, Szela and Smugoń in Zeromski’s Turori and The Quail Flew From Me, and Akakii Akakievich in a dramatization of Gogol’s The Overcoat. Jaracz also appeared in motion pictures.
