Italian Union of Labor

(Unione Italiana del Lavoro), a national trade-union center of Italy. Founded in 1950, the Italian Union of Labor is dominated by the Italian Socialist Party, the Social Democratic Party (Unitary Socialists), and the Republican Party. According to its own data, the organization had about 800, 000 members in 1974. At the time of its founding the Italian Union of Labor adopted a platform of reformism and class cooperation. Beginning in the late 1960’s it cooperated more frequently with the country’s other trade-union centers in the strike movement, and eventually it joined the federation of three Italian trade-union centers, which was formed in 1972. The Italian Union of Labor belongs to the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions. Its press organ is Il lavoro Italiano.
