a city in southwestern Saudi Arabia, in the Hejaz Mountains; situated at an elevation of more than 2,000 m. Population, 54,000 (1963). Al-Ta’if, linked by highway with Riyadh and Mecca, also has an airport. The city is the trade center of an agricultural region specializing in livestock breeding and the cultivation of fruits and vegetables. Handicrafts include the production of textiles. The city is the summer seat of the government.
