founded in 1930 in Alma-Ata. The institute has (1972 data) departments of agronomy, soil science and agronomical chemistry, fruit and vegetable growing and viticulture, plant protection, agricultural economics and organization, forestry, agricultural mechanization and electrification, and the organization and technology of machinery repair, as well as a department for the advanced training of agricultural managers and specialists. There is also a graduate school, 50 subdepartments, a teaching and experimental farm of 21, 200 hectares, teaching and production workshops, a research laboratory, a nursery, and a library with 262, 000 holdings. The institute has been granted the right to accept doctoral and candidates’ dissertations for defense. Since 1948 it has been publishing Trudy, and it has trained 15, 000 specialists since its foundation. In 1971 it was awarded the Order of the RedBanner of Labor.
