Job Depth

Job Depth

The ability to control one's work environment. In general, the more self-direction one has, the greater one's job depth. That is, a person with job depth may be able to set his/her own hours, decide which tasks to accomplish every day, and so forth. A manager may have job depth, but circumstances incumbent on management (such as dealing with employee misconduct or an irate client) may reduce the level of depth.
