AIC Goal

A term of art referring to the desired target level of HbA1c for a particular patient with diabetes. The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists believes the A1c goal should be <6.5%; the American Diabetes Association has a more relaxed A1c goal of <7%. The new (as of 2010) standard for reporting haemoglobin A1c has been promulgated by the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC). Per the IFCC, the HbA1c is less than 50 mmol/mol for well-controlled diabetes. See Diabetes mellitus, haemoglobin A1C.
