Kasatkin, Ivan Mikhailovich

 

Born Mar. 30 (Apr. 11), 1880; died May 13, 1938. Soviet Russian writer.

Kasatkin was born to a poor peasant family in the village of Baranovitsy, in present-day Kologriv Raion, Kostroma Oblast. He was first published in 1907. His first book of short stories was A Forest Story (1916). During the 1920’s and 1930’s, Kasatkin was the editor of the journals Krasnaia niva (Red Cornfield) and Zemlia sovetskaia (Soviet Land). The life of the Russian peasantry was the main theme of his short stories.
