Karaganda, University of
founded in 1972. It grew out of a pedagogical institute that opened in 1952. In 1972 the university had departments of philology, history, economics, law, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology; preparatory, evening, and correspondence divisions; a graduate school; 37 subdepartments; 40 laboratories; and an agrobiological station. During the 1972–73 academic year, more than 5, 000 students were enrolled at the university.
