Karain

Karain

 

a Paleolithic cave near the city of Antalya in Turkey. It was discovered in 1946 and, over the course of several years, was excavated by K. Kökten. Karain contains several cultural layers in which stone implements of the Acheulean, Mousterian, and Aurignacian periods of the Paleolithic have been discovered. Two teeth of fossil man have been found in the Mousterian layer and the layer located between the Mousterian and Aurignacian. One of them belongs to Neanderthal man.
