Army and Navy Field Forces
Army and Navy Field Forces
the armed forces of a state that are used from the beginning of a war to wage combat action (distinguished from the remaining armed forces that are located in the rear and are designated to train reserves and replenish and supply the army and navy field forces). Personnel of army and navy field forces are usually provided with special food, clothing, and monetary allowances and have advantages in computing time in service for promotions and for pensions. The term “army and navy field forces” became widespread in the 19th century with the appearance of mass armed forces constructed on the principles of a regular army and regular navy.
