intravascular oxygenation intravascular oxygenation An experimental method of raising the oxygen levels of the blood and reducing the carbon dioxide levels by means of a device, the intravenous oxygenator (IVOX), introduced into a vein. IVOC consists of a bundle of about 1000 very fine siloxane-coated polypropylene hollow fibres through which oxygen is passed. The bundle is about 50 cm long and is inserted into the largest vein in the body, the inferior vena cava. |
