(Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften), founded in 1847 in Vienna as the Imperial Academy of Sciences and renamed the Academy of Sciences in 1918, assuming its present name in 1947. The Austrian Academy of Sciences has two sections: mathematics and the natural sciences, and philosophy and history. The academy has 351 members (1968), and its library has 100,000 volumes. It publishes the Almanach, the Anzeiger (Index) of the works of the academy in two series (one for each section), Sitzungsberichte (Report of Meetings), and Denkshriften (Proceedings) for the academy as a whole and for each of the two sections.
