Kabardinian Plain

Kabardinian Plain

a plain in Ciscaucasia, situated in the Terek River basin, south of the lower reaches of the Malka River, in the northeastern part of the Kabarda-Balkar ASSR. The Kabardinian Plain slopes from the foot of the Greater Caucasus mountains to the northeast. (Absolute altitude decreases in this direction from 500 to 200 m.) It is composed of coarse gravel covered with loesslike loams. Soils are chernozem and prairie chernozem; where steppes once were there are now cultivated lands. (Corn crops, industrial crops, and melon crops are raised.)
