Isaacson type-2 lesion

Isaacson type-2 lesion

A term of art referring to the presence of marked stromal-cell atypia, which is most commonly seen in the oesophagus in a background of benign inflammatory hyperplasia. The atypia may lead to overcalling the lesion cancer or other unwarranted diagnoses. The benign cells are usually CD34 and CD117 negative and positive for CD10, smooth muscle antibody and vimentin.
