a city in southern Poland, in Katowice Województwo; situated in the Upper Silesian coalfield. Population, 87,700 (1977). Jaworzno is a railroad junction. Coal is mined in the area. The city has three coal-fired steam power plants, with a combined capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. Jaworzno produces insecticides, cement, and glass.
