KDM2A

KDM2A

A gene on chromosome 11q13.2 that encodes lysine-specific demethylase 2A of the F-box protein family, which constitute one of the four subunits of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex called SCF (SKP1-cullin-F)-box (which is involved in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination). KDM2A may recognise and bind phosphorylated proteins and promote their ubiquitination and degradation. It associates with centromeres and represses transcription of small non-coding RNAs, which are encoded by clusters of satellite repeats at the centromere. It is needed to sustain centromeric integrity and genomic stability, especially during mitosis.
