Kachanovskii, Vladimir Vasil’evich
Born Mar. 1 (13), 1853, in the village of Velikii Les, Grodno Province; died Apr. 11 (24), 1901, in Nezhin. Russian Slavicist.
Upon graduating from the University of Warsaw in 1876, he traveled through the Slavic countries, Greece, Italy, and France to gather research material. In 1886 he obtained a teaching post at the University of Kazan, and between 1888 and 1896 he published the journal Vestnik Slavianstva. He was appointed professor of Slavic philology, history, and literature in the Institute of History and Philology at Nezhin in 1896. Kachanovskii is known for his work in Slavic philology and for his publication of monuments of Slavic literature.
