Location:Across the bay from the town of Homer. Access is by plane or boat; there are no roads to the park.
Facilities:Camping permitted in most areas of the park, with some developed sites,3 public-use cabins, toilets (no drinking water), trails (80 miles),boat dock, mooring buoys.
Activities:Camping, fishing, boating, kayaking, hiking, mountaineering, skiing, hunting, bird watching.
Special Features:Alaska's first state park, and only wilderness park, contains nearly400,000 acres of mountains, glaciers, forests, and ocean. Kachemak Bayis a critical habitat area, supporting many species of marine life,including sea otters, seals, porpoise, and whales. Land mammals includemoose, black bear, mountain goats, coyotes, and wolves, and the manyspecies of birds that inhabit the bay include eagles, gyrfalcons, andpuffins. Above the timberline, visitors will find glaciers and snowfields stretching for miles.
