Karelian Birch
a distinctive type of verrucous birch, characterized by thickenings on the trunk and by the marble-like pattern and texture of the wood. The wood is light yellow with dark brown markings. The Karelian birch is distributed eastward from the Karelian forests to the Urals. It is also found in Latvia, Byelorussia, and Scandinavia. The wood is valuable for the manufacture of furniture and woodenware. It is also used in the interior decoration of buildings.
