Vockerodt, Johann Gotthilf

 

Year of birth unknown; died in the 1750’s. Diplomat and writer.

Vockerodt was the secretary of the Prussian embassy in St. Petersburg from 1717 to 1733. He wrote sketches about Russia (1737) that were intended for Voltaire. The sketches contained historical material from the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as Vockerodt’s own observations and information about the mores of the Russian people. The sketches were published in 1872 in Leipzig in German and in 1874 in Russian.
