Kemine

Kemine

(pseudonym of Mamedveli). Born c. 1770; died 1840. Turkmen poet.

Kemine wrote sharply accusatory satirical poems, as well as love lyrics. Only about 40 of his poems have survived to our day; they have come down to us mainly through oral transmission. The popularity of Kemine’s poetry and his popularity as a person made the poet a hero in a cycle of oral folk tales.
