Jaldapara

a wildlife preserve in India, situated in West Bengal on the Torsa River, close to the Bhutan border. Area, 24,000 hectares.

Jaldapara Preserve was created in 1941 for the preservation of the great one-horned rhinoceros (in 1968 there were about 80 head). Other mammals include the tiger, leopard, bear, elephant, and deer; there are also peacocks and brush-turkeys. The vegetation features tall grasses, shrubs, and light forests of Malabar silk-cotton trees and shisham (sissoo).
