Kanggye
a city in the northern part of the Democratic Republic of Korea, on the Tongno River. Administrative center of the province of Chagang. Population, 130, 000 (1962). The city is a transportation junction. Its industries include sawmilling, woodworking, and machine building. There are deposits of graphite, coal, copper, and other minerals in the vicinity. A hydroelectric power plant is located in Kanggye.
