Karjalanselkä

an upland ridge in eastern Finland, located between Lake Oulu to the northwest and Pyhäselkä to the southeast. Length, about 200 km; elevations, to 355 m. The ridge is composed of ancient crystalline rock covered with moraine deposits. There are extensive taiga forests with numerous swamps and lakes. The area has lumber industry.
