Karkaralinsk

a city and administrative center of Karkaralinsk Raion, Karaganda Oblast, Kazakh SSR, at the foot of the Karkaralinsk Mountains, 23 km northwest of the Karagaily railroad station. It is situated on a highway, 224 km southeast of Karaganda. Population, 9, 000 (1970). It is the center of an agricultural region. There is a veterinary technicum. Karkaralinsk was first established in 1824 as a cossack settlement.
