Ishkov, Aleksandr Akimovich

Born Aug. 16 (29), 1905, in Stavropol’. Soviet statesman and economic official. Became a member of the CPSU in 1927. The son of a worker.

Ishkov began work in 1919 as a foreman’s helper in an electromechanical shop. He graduated from the Rostov Pedagogical Institute in 1957. Ishkov has held high positions in the fishing industry since 1930. From 1940 to 1946 he was people’s commissar and from 1946 to 1948 minister of the fishing industry of the western regions of the USSR. Minister of the fishing industry of the USSR from 1948 to 1950, Ishkov was first deputy minister of the food products industry of the USSR (1953–), minister of the fishing industry of the USSR (1954–), minister of the USSR and a member of the State Planning Committee of the USSR (1957–), and chairman of the State Committee for the Fishing Industry (1962–). Ishkov has been minister of the fishing industry of the USSR since October 1965. Elected a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU at the Twentieth through Twenty-fourth Congresses of the party, Ishkov was a deputy to the second, seventh, and eighth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and has been awarded four Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and medals.
