Glizer, Iudif’ Samoilovna

Born Feb. 10 (23), 1904, in the village of Rogachevo, Kiev Province; died Mar. 27, 1968, in Moscow. Soviet Russian actress. People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1954).

Glizer studied in the studio of the First Working Theater of the Proletarian Cultural and Educational Organization in Moscow, where she began her artistic career (1921-28). In 1928 she began to act at the Moscow Theater of the Revolution (the present-day V. Mayakovsky Moscow Theater). Her best roles were Skoblo and Glafira in Glebov’s Power and Inga, Queen Elizabeth in Schiller’s Maria Stuart, Konstantsiia L’vovna in Leonov’s An Ordinary Man, Lavinia in Hellmann’s Ladies and Gentlemen, and Mother Courage in Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children.
