Iudovskii, Vladimir Grigorevich

Born Aug. 3 (15), 1880, in Novogeorgievsk, Kherson Province; died Oct. 24, 1949. Participant in the revolutionary movement in Russia. Member of the Communist Party from 1903.

The son of a timber merchant, Iudovskii joined the Social Democratic movement in 1897. He became a member of the Tula committee of the RSDLP in 1906 and thereafter carried out party work in many Russian cities. In 1917 he became a member of the Petrograd committee of the RSDLP(B) and a deputy to the local soviet. Later that year he became a member of the Odessa regional committee of the party, chairman of the Odessa revolutionary military committee, and chairman of the Rumcherod (seeRUMCHEROD). In January 1918, Iudovskii was named chairman of the Odessa council of people’s commissars, and in the spring of the same year he moved to Moscow, where he served on the Moscow provincial committee of the RCP(B).

In 1920 and 1921, Iudovskii was secretary of the Syr Darya provincial committee and a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolshevik) of Turkestan. In 1923 he began teaching in Moscow and became a professor at Moscow State University. He served as a delegate to the Eleventh Congress of the RCP(B). Iudovskii was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
