Kates, Robert (William)

(1929– ) geographer; born in New York City. He taught at the graduate school, Clark University (1962–88). In 1986 he became director of the Brown University World Hunger Program. His particular interests are reflected in the titles of the books that he coauthored: The Environment as Hazard (1978), Climate Impact Assessment (1985), Perilous Progress (1985), and Hunger in History (1989).
