a river in Arkhangel’sk Oblast, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Pinega (Severnaia Dvina River basin). The river measures 314 km in length and drains an area of 5,290 sq km. It is fed primarily by snow. High water lasts from May through June. The mean flow rate 20 km from the mouth is 46.7 cu m per sec. The river freezes in November, and the ice breaks up in late April or May.
