Iulian Saushkin

Saushkin, Iulian Glebovich

 

Born June 19 (July 2), 1911, in Moscow. Soviet economic geographer. Doctor of geographic sciences (1947) and Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1972). Member of the CPSU since 1940. Saushkin graduated from Moscow State University in 1932. In 1948 he became a professor and head of the subdepartment of USSR economic geography at the university. His principal works have dealt with the economic geography of the USSR, general theoretical questions of economic geography, economic zoning, and the history of geography.
