a balneological and mud-bath health resort in the Dagestan ASSR, located 80 km from Makhachkala, 4.5 km from the Kaiakent station, and 3 km from the Caspian Sea. Summers are warm (with average July temperatures of about 25°C) and winters are mild (with average January temperatures of 1°C). Therapeutic remedies include peat and silt muds from Lake Dipsus (the mud-bath therapy consists of immersion in the lake for periods of 15 minutes) and hydrosulfide and hydrogen sulfide thermal 38°−43°0C) bicarbonate-chloride-sulfate waters, which are used for baths. Patients with diseases of the organs of motion and support, gynecological ailments, and skin diseases are treated here as well as those with disorders of the peripheral nervous system.
